Dr. Mortenson is a graduate of San Jose State University in San Jose, California and attended medical school at the University of Southern California in San Francisco. He did his orthopedic residency and a specialty fellowship in hand surgery at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. During this period of time, Dr. Mortenson published a number of articles in three separate prestigious national surgical journals.
In 1976, Dr. Mortenson moved to Greensboro and was the original founding partner of The Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center. He served as a chief of orthopaedics at Humana Hospital which subsequently became Women’s Hospital. He has also held a teaching position at Bowman Gray Medical School as a clinical professor of orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Mortenson has had more than 25 years of orthopaedic practice experience and has performed thousands o surgical procedures. His specialty practice keeps him current with the latest surgical techniques and advances in sports medicine and joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Mortenson has a wide interest in missionary work. For the past 30 years, he has volunteered his time and energy doing medical missionary work in numerous third world countries which have included Indonesia, Mexico, Haiti, and Honduras.
