Dr. Lucey grew up in Raleigh, N.C. He then went to Clemson University, where he played soccer and won both ACC and NCAA Championships. He then went to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for medical school. He received his orthopedic surgery training at Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center. He completed his training by going to New York City where he did a fellowship(extra year of training) in both Sports Medicine and Joint Replacements. While there, he worked as team physician for the New York Knicks.
Dr. Lucey joined SM&OC in 2000. He focuses his practice on sports medicine and joint reconstruction. He serves as a team physician for several local sports teams, from youth leagues to the college level. Additionally, he serves as team physician for the United States National & Olympic Soccer teams as well as Petty NASCAR Race teams. Dr. Lucey is currently performing minimally invasive joint replacement surgery with cutting edge technology. These techniques allows for smaller incisions, earlier return to function, and less pain.
Dr. Lucey is married to Stacey and has three children: Luke, Becca, and Jenna. As a family, they enjoy spending time together, playing sports, participating in church activities, and traveling to the beach and mountains.
