 Osteoporosis is a serious disease and bone densitometry screening is a quick, non-invasive procedure to determine bone strength. Bone density tests are the most practical way to accurately measure the density of your bones. A bone density test is Not a nuclear bone scan and works by measuring the amount of x-rays that are absorbed by the bones in your body. However, the amount of radiation is only a fraction of that of a chest x-ray and is actually comparable to the amount received on a transcontinental airline flight. Precautions will be taken when informed of any chance of pregnancy.
The Bone Densitometry Test is very simple. You will be asked to lie on a cushioned table while it takes only a few minutes to complete. An automatic “arm” will quietly pass over the region of your body being measured. Patients are asked to allow 15-30 minutes for your scheduled appointment.
